Snake-Head Turtle is a small turtle that resides in Wiradjuri Country where I live, you usually see them crossing the road a lot as they travel from swamp to swamp to gather fresh water and food supplies. A lot unfortunately do not survive due to this. Fortunately I have seen one in it's natural habitat swimming around, this painting captures that memory and movement in it's habitat swimming in the water freely. I added the lotuses in as another version such as this, as I took a visit to India in 2014 and was inspired by the colours and flowers of the country. Although I've used flowers such as the lotus before in my paintings previously, such as Brolga, the lotuses in the water animal paintings represents universal connection and unity.
